Venice and boats.
One does not exist without the other. There are 150 canals to navigate in this city and many different types of boats in which to do so.
If one comes to Venice for only a few hours, or days, all the boats seem to be gondolas.
In fact there are as many as 100 types of boats to suit the different needs of Venetians. No matter the vast number of styles, all boats share one thing in common: elegance.
How fun to explore the traditional rowing style “Voga alla veneta†on a batelo, or speak with makers and outfitters of the traditional rowing boats. Maybe visiting a more modern approach to boating in the lagoon will peak your interest, followed by a discussion on cruise ships and their effect on the health of the lagoon that feeds and protects this amazing jewel of a city.
Boats are a basic way of life here but hopefully during the Live in Venice Week you will learn also how spiritually connected the people who live here are to the water that surrounds them, via their boats.
