Who is Il Forcolaio Matto
Il Forcolaio Matto aka Piero Dri carries on a millenary tradition in Venice. The art of making Forcolas, the oarlocks for boats, in Venice. He carves by hand this kind of wooden sculpture that allows the Gondolier to row and manovrate the Gondola. He also sells the Forcola as a piece of art all over the world.
We will meet Piero Dri of Il Forcolaio Matto, one of the last oarklock makers in Venice. In his workshop we will be able to see all the tools used for generations, necessary for the construction of oars and oarlocks. Piero creates, by hand, the traditional Venetian Forcole, the indispensable objects for the rowing of the famous Gondola. One of the oldest Venetian crafts.
